With growing enrollment at UTNIF this summer, we will be adding an additional intermediate lab. That lab will be led by Josh Aguilar and Oklahoma State Champion Garner Lanier (whose staff bio is also on the blog). Here is information about Josh:
Josh AGUILAR is an active LD judge and the assistant coach at Salado High School, where he has worked diligently to help the team branch out to be competitive at national tournaments without sacrificing its strong local roots. Josh coached the 2007 2A UIL State Champion and 2008 runner-up. His students also have qualified for TFA State and have reached elimination rounds at NFL Nationals, Memorial, Churchill, and the UT-Austin Longhorn Classic. When he was a student at Hays High School, Josh competed successfully himself in LD for four years in the Austin area, qualifying for TFA State, UIL State, and NFL Nationals. Despite limited opportunities to travel, Josh reach elimination rounds at Grapevine, Churchill, and the Longhorn Classic. He is a wonderful role model for local students who are beginning to travel outside their regions and has a great appreciation for the variety of styles currently present in LD due to his experiences. He previously has taught at the Texas Speech and Debate Camp and will be teaching at The Championship Group after UTNIF this summer. He currently is a junior at UT-Austin, where his major is rhetoric and writing. An UTNIF top lab alum, Josh has judged practice debates for the camp the past two summers. We are excited to add him as a full-time lab leader given his patient teaching style, demonstrated dedication, and focus on inclusion for all students in debate.
